Episode 45: Traci Dixon
Traci Dixon joins me for Episode 45. We met through the wonderful world of podcasting and social media. She and her friend Rebecca have a podcast called StoryCast Monday. You may have heard it before--I was a guest on Episode 24.
She is a wife, mama to 3 kids, brewery owner, entrepreneur, blogger, and foodie. You will definitely want to eat some good food if you follow her on social media.
If you have ever felt the need to reprioritize your life or struggled with whether you are doing the right thing or wondered if the rug was being pulled out from under you, then you will relate to our conversation. We talk about what it looks like to choose adoption and walk through the heartbreak when it fails.
I hope you enjoyed my conversation with Traci. There were a few things that really stuck with me in our chat. One thing was the reminder to focus on what today looks like. Its easy to get stressed about what tomorrow, next week or next month may look like. If you've been listening to the show for awhile, you probably notice the theme like I do. So many of our guests have said that as they walk through hardship or face unknown circumstances, their advice is to just do the next right thing. Clearly the Lord is probably trying to get that message through my head and into my heart.

Takeaways From Our Conversation:
@@In our culture, we feel guilty for sitting down and being still@@. Our culture makes us think that we have to constantly be doing something. Challenge: put away the laptop or phone at night or at some other point in the day and do something needed (self-care, invest in a relationship, exercise, etc) @@Sometimes you need reprioritize things in your life@@.
When talking about her failed adoptions: @@God called us to this, so we need to keep going@@. Through the hardship, they have grown closer together. @@God gives you in the moment what you need@@. "None of this was about us in the beginning. It's about the gospel and God is in control."
"If that means our heart has to be broken in the process then that is part of the story. @@There is always a risk with putting yourself out there but following what God has called you to is what we need to do@@."
I enjoyed the advice she would give to her younger self: "Don’t get caught up in the small, insignificant things. but to realize that sometimes the small things are the big things. @@Don’t get caught up in comparison or worrying about what people think@@. Focus on pleasing the one that matters most. Do what God has called you to do. Focus on embracing each moment more. Make the most of each opportunity you have."
Tips for how to live life to the fullest as a family: control your schedule to make time for what is important to you. Protect a day for just your family. Plan fun stuff. Dance parties.

My goal each week is to encourage you to survive in this very thing called life. If you were encouraged or inspired or entertained, head over to iTunes and leave a brief review with a 5 star rating.
Here is a recent one from JoniSkinner: "I recently found Sarah's podcast when she was a guest on another podcast I listen to. The interviews are entertaining and informative. I've enjoyed learning about the lives of other women in the Christian community that I will probably never meet. Their stories of God's faithfulness are inspiring for moms, whether you are a mom of toddlers or teenagers, stay-at-home or work full-time outside the home. I look forward to listening to more of Surviving Sarah." THANK YOU so much for that 5 star review. I am just as inspired as you as I have these conversations.
Your review will help get the podcast in front of new listeners who are just like you looking to know that they aren't alone in life. Thank you for being awesome!
